What to write for a personalized song: lyric prompt tips
The lyrics can only be as specific as the story you give. The SongMyGift form asks for a few things: who it is for, the occasion, how you know them, one memory, an inside phrase, a sound and a tone. Here is how to fill each one so the song sounds like your person.
General gift advice, updated 2026-10-30. Examples are made up. Songs are made with AI, not by a human singer.
Field by field
- Their name: what you actually call them. A short name or nickname is easier to sing.
- How you know them: one or two sentences. Where you met, how long, what they are to you.
- The memory: one scene with a place, a time and an object. One scene is enough.
- The inside phrase: a few words only they would recognize. A joke, a nickname, a family saying.
- Sound and tone: a genre they would actually listen to, and the feeling you want them to have.
- Your note: optional, in your own words. It is shown on the gift page, not sung.
Specific beats impressive
Language models fill gaps with generic phrases. The fewer gaps you leave, the less generic the lyrics.
A memory, two ways
Vague: She is the most amazing person and always there for me.
Specific: The winter my car died, she drove me to work at six every morning in her pajamas and never once complained.
The second version gives the song a picture, a time of day and a joke to build on. Use only true details you are happy for them to hear sung back.
Mistakes to avoid
- Listing ten memories. The song cannot fit them all, so pick one and let it carry the rest.
- Asking for a famous singer or for a song in the style of a named artist. The form refuses those requests.
- Pasting lyrics from an existing song. Write your own words; the song is meant to be original.
- Private details you would not want read aloud. The gift page is unlisted, but anyone with the link can open it.
- Hard-to-pronounce spellings with no hint. If a name is unusual, consider spelling it phonetically in the name field.
If the result misses
AI songs are uneven. A line can be cheesy, or a rhyme can be forced. Each order includes one new version, so if the first one misses, add a clearer detail to your story before you use it.

Can I write the lyrics myself?
Not word for word. You provide the story and the details, and an AI language model writes the lyrics from them. Your own words can go in the note on the gift page.
How long should the memory be?
A few sentences is plenty. The field takes up to 800 characters, and one clear scene usually works better than a long summary.
